Megado - without Dobby

The Megado, our flagship loom, is a multi-shaft dobby loom featuring unique innovations that make treading exceptionally light and weaving a true pleasure. Its appealing appearance is due to its advanced construction and the use of lacquered ash wood.

The dobby loom is available with 16 or 32 shafts and in weaving widths of 40, 70, 90, 110, and 130 cm. You can choose between a mechanical dobby and an electronic interface. The complex upper part of the loom is pre-assembled. Included in the delivery are: a large storage shelf, an integrated reed holder, a stainless steel reed 40-10 (10 dpi), 900 to 1700 pre-assembled heddles (392 mm), heddle and tie-up bars, and sixteen warp sticks.

Dobby looms feature a dobby system that programs the shaft combinations for the weaving pattern. Dobby is short for 'Draw Boy' – a term referring to the weaver's helper who used to control the warp threads by pulling on draw cords. The dobby mechanism replaces the treadle/lam combination of traditional floor looms. The performance of a multi-shaft loom is significantly improved by the use of a dobby mechanism, as it overcomes the essential problems of using many treadles.

A dobby loom allows you to select the desired shaft combination for each shed opening. The great advantage of a dobby loom is that it eliminates the elaborate and labor-intensive tie-ups under the loom. An investment in a Louët dobby guarantees many years of comfortable, ergonomic, and productive weaving.

A mechanical dobby consists of a programming bar with pegs. The numbered holes in the programming bars correspond to the shafts of the loom. If a shaft is to be lifted, a peg is inserted into the corresponding hole in the bar. The number of programming bars forming the chain corresponds to the desired weaving pattern. However, if a very large number of programming bars are required, it may be advisable to consider an electronic dobby for reasons of cost and functionality. here. On no other loom, with so many shafts, can you tread a large leap so lightly. The tension of the warp plays no role in this. The treadle is height-adjustable and can therefore be adapted to the weaver's preference.

For information on the electronic dobby, see article Dobby 2.0, no. WA0298 or WA0299.
